چکیده

In order to reconcile the advantages of the classical dipole model and minimum norm imaging techniques, higherorder parametric source models based on multipolar expansions of the source have been suggested. We evaluate the ability of dipolar and multipolar MEG source estimation frameworks to localize spatially extended patches of cortical activity. The results show the performance of the different models with respect to the area of active cortex and to variable noise conditions and demonstrate the utility of the multipole model.

Hybrid MEG source characterization by cortical remapping and imaging of parametric source models

Reliable estimation of the local spatial extent of neural activity is a key to the quantitative analysis of MEG sources across subjects and conditions. In association with an understanding of the temporal dynamics among multiple areas, this would represent a major advance in electrophysiological source imaging. Parametric current dipole approaches to MEG (and EEG) source localization can rapidl...

Criteria for fitting MEG dipoles with fMRI position constraints

Since MEG and EEG inverse problems are "illposed" (i.e., solutions cannot be uniquely determined), additional information such as fMRI and PET activation data can be used to impose additional constraints [1]-[6]. For example, fMRI data were used to fix the locations of equivalent current dipoles at activation areas [1][2][5] or to give higher weights for finding dipoles at activation areas [3][...

Combined MEG and fMRI model

An integrated model for magnetoencephalography (MEG) and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is proposed. In the proposed model, MEG and fMRI outputs are related to the corresponding aspects of neural activities in a voxel. Post synaptic potentials (PSPs) and action potentials (APs) are two main signals generated by neural activities. In the model, both of MEG and fMRI are related to t...

On MEG forward modelling using multipolar expansions.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a non-invasive functional imaging modality based on the measurement of the external magnetic field produced by neural current sources within the brain. The reconstruction of the underlying sources is a severely ill-posed inverse problem typically tackled using either low-dimensional parametric source models, such as an equivalent current dipole (ECD), or high-dim...

Volume Currents in Forward and Inverse MEG Simulations Using Realistic Head Models

Volume currents are important for the accurate calculation of magnetoencephalographic (MEG) forward or inverse simulations in realistic head models. We verify the accuracy of the finite element method in MEG simulations by comparing its results for spheres containing dipoles to those obtained from the analytic solution. We then use the finite element method to show that, in an inhomogeneous, no...
